The Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe was first held at Longchamp racecourse in October 1920 and was won by Comrade.
Today, the race offers prize money of four million euros, €2,285,600 of which goes to the winner. The Arc weekend as a whole, meanwhile, boasts Europe’s most richly rewarded racecard, with prize money totalling almost 6.7 million euros.
Known simply now to racegoers as "The Arc" it is the most prestigious race in Europe and its roll of honour includes Ribot, Sea Bird, Mill Reef, Dancing Brave and Montjeu. |
